PJ HARVEY. Uh Huh Her (reissue). (180gm Vinyl LP + MP3 Download Code)
UMC
Polly Jean Harvey's reissue series continues via a new edition of 2004 set Uh Huh Her, one of the alternative rock icon's most fuzzy and lo-fi sets. The album's distinctive sound, which eschewed studio trickery in favour of a stripped-back range of instruments and home recording techniques, was a deliberate choice, but one that divided critics at the time. All these years on, the album still sounds raw and fresh, with Harvey's distinctive lyrics and vocal delivery rising above her own lo-fi musical backing (she played almost all the instruments herself) and long-time collaborator Rob Ellis' unfussy drums. Highlights include 'Shame', the riotous 'Who The Fuck', the sparse and surprisingly electronic 'The Slow Drug' and the growling, post-punk-goes-alt-rock flavour of 'It's You'.
